Visited Taste of Malayalees for the Onam Sadhya this year, and I was quite disappointed. The price had been increased from $19 to $21, which would have been understandable if the quality and quantity matched up — but sadly, they didn’t. The number of items served was very, very limited, and the portions were incredibly small. Most of the curries were watery and lacked the authentic flavor you’d expect from a festive sadhya. Overall, it felt rushed and not worth the price hike at all. Definitely not what I was expecting for an Onam celebration. Would not recommend!!!
Taste of Malayalees in Mississauga is a go-to spot for Keralites looking for essential groceries, Kerala snacks, and quick take-out meals like biryanis and curries. The grocery section and the take-out restaurant are combined in one large hall, so while the selection is limited compared to larger stores, it covers most basic needs. It’s one of the smaller Kerala grocery stores in the GTA, but the variety of authentic snacks available is impressive. The food selection at the take-out counter is decent and convenient. Overall, a handy and reliable place for a quick taste of Kerala.
Today had a not so good experience. Two men who were serving was sick, one wasn't wearing a mask and constantly coughing into the food. Either the lid wasn't closed properly or the container became moisture, food got spilled in the bag too.
The chicken roast, mutton stew and mutton curry are really good. Chattichor is good and economically feasible. Their kaalan and beetroot pachaddi was really good. Biriyani is not upto the level. Rava kesari is really good. The customer service is really good. Majority of staff like Mathew, Tony and Gokul have good professionalism.
What has happened to the owner? This pazham pori was $1.5 each. It was around 3 inches and very hard and dry. Seriously, $1.5 each? Avial was stale and Egg puff had 1/4 of an egg inside!. Please report this place to Food inspection. Dont take us Malayalees for granted or you will close down pretty quickly.
